If you are a local or tourist who has been in the area for more then ten years, you will remember the place for fine dining and to share memorable occasions was at The Elephant Walk located Gulf side at Sandestin. My family spent many occasions there, and a favored dish was the Grouper Elizabeth, served with jumbo lump crab. The name of the restaurant came from the 1954 movie starring Elizabeth Taylor and Peter Finch, and in the past was filled with art and artifacts from India.
I am excited to announce that The Elephant Walk Restaurant is being revived, and will feature, “Treasured Traditions, Food and Service.”
Sandestin Investments LLC, the parent company of Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort and Sandestin Real Estate, today announced an agreement with Tom Rice and Wayne Lewis for the reestablishment of The Elephant Walk Restaurant on the beach at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.
From 1985-2003, The Elephant Walk was a popular and respected fine-dining restaurant that operated where Finz on the beach is now located. The Elephant Walk had a loyal following because of the friendly, upscale atmosphere combined with excellent cuisine.
Tom Rice and Wayne Lewis are prominent restaurateurs in the local area and across the Southeast. Together, they own several well-known restaurants including The Marlin Grill in the Village of Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin.
“Our goal is to bring back this great restaurant tradition with extraordinary cuisine, fine service and beautiful views it was once known for,” said restaurateur Tom Rice. “This once-in-a-lifetime and beautiful location, combined with our culinary and restaurant management experience will result in an outstanding restaurant experience for guests and homeowners.
Under the new ownership team, the restaurant will revive some of the treasured traditions of The Elephant Walk, including popular menu items like Grouper Elizabeth, excellent wine selections and fine service.
Plans for The Elephant Walk include a soft opening period for dinner beginning late March, in time for the busy spring break season. The official opening and the beginning of lunch service will be this May. The main floor and deck will be used for lunch and dinner, and the upper floor will be used for group events, all with stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico and the sugar white sand beach.
According to Mark Hodgdon, general manager of the resort, “We are pleased to work with Tom Rice and Wayne Lewis because they are trusted business leaders in the community, and delighted that The Elephant Walk will once again be part of our Gulf-front experience.”
Terms of the lease agreement were not disclosed.
