The Gulf Okaloosa Island announces The Gulf Chef Series event featuring three-time James Beard Award semi-finalist for Best Chef in the South, Chef Derek Emerson. All proceeds generated from the tickets will benefit Feeding the Gulf Coast’s Backpack Program, which helps meet the needs of chronically hungry children by providing them with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food to take home on weekends and school vacations when other resources are not available.

Chef Emerson’s unique twist on Southern fare has earned him the reputation of one of the South’s most recognized and revered chefs. He is known for using the freshest, local and regional ingredients in his meals, drawing from his four years as a chef in Atlanta by blending “big city food” with traditional Southern dishes.

At The Gulf Chef Series event, Chef Emerson, who is the executive chef and owner of Walker’s Drive-In in Jackson, Mississippi, and Local 463 Urban Kitchen in Madison, will create a four-course meal paired with delicious wines to perfectly complement each dish. The goal is to broaden guests’ culinary horizons, to delight the senses, and to contribute to a great cause in the local community.
